Amongst the Elements, there is a unanimous agreement that the four Seasons are by far the most desired.
Spring is the most delightful to the eyes, with a gentle breeze that breathes life into all elements and the most gentle caress. No one can help but bloom in their presence, and admire the stunning beauty that is flawlessly designed by the All Mighty. Spring brings out the best in all captured hearts.
Summer is the most passionate, injecting admirers with electric energy, filling the onlookers with hopes and dreams of the golden days ahead and promises of a swell time. No one can ever get enough of Summer, but it’s precisely what makes them so irresistible; their quick passion leaves one breathless, constantly desiring for more, and always with a perfect lasting memory.
Autumn is the quietest, but don’t let that fool you; below the mysterious facade lies a dangerous charm that melts away the bittersweetness imprinted by the departure of Summer. Autumn’s allure is simply bewitching, enchanting the very air with the smell of pumpkin spice. Autumn’s presence is welcomed by suitors with open arms. Who wouldn’t want to be touched by a spark of magic?
Winter. Oh, where to even begin? Winter is just about the most romantic of them all. Their presence is accompanied by quiet comforts and illuminating cozy embraces. Winter’s magic leaves anyone and everyone the gift of rest, serenity, and a moment of pause to find oneself. Winter captures the most number of hearts in the realms of the living and the dead, and their heart only belongs to one. Since the beginning of time, Winter’s only love of eternity has always been Lady of the Land.
On the 21st of every December, the shortest day of the year, the spirits of the elements gather to spectate the reunion of Winter and Lady of the Land as Mother Earth enters the Winter Solstice. The air buzzes with energy as the crowd patiently waits for the hand of the clock to strike midnight.
Tick, tick, tick — The crowd booms as the celebration of the legendary couple’s undying love begins, drowning out the continuous ticking of time. For the next 89 days, till the Spring Solstice, the anticipation of the spontaneous bedazzling weddings will be all that the elements speak of.
“I can’t wait for the first wedding of the year!” Fire roared in excitement.
“Lady Land will look the most exquisite in her bridal gowns!” Light dimmed and brightened in response.
“I wish I could find a spirit that’d love me enough to give me multiple weddings a year,” Water flows through the conversation, careful to keeping distance from Fire.
“If you can get with Spring, surely they will shower you with cherry blossom pedals every year,” Air joined in with a giggle.
“Spring would be lucky not to get flooded by this one!” Fire darts a flair towards Water, who diligently keeps the distance, but apparently not enough.
“Ss-” With skillful proficiency, Water lifts a perfectly sized shield, sizzling out Fire’s provocation into an air of smoke without as much as breaking a sweat. The rest of the elements jeer in a way best translated as rolling their eyes in the human world, if they had eyes, that is.
“Here we go again!” Air bounces, absorbing the smoke, and the rest of the elements chuckle along to the same play that unfolded countless times.
In the jittery crowd near the chatting spirits of elements floats Miss. Snow, whose heart of icy igloo roars with the spirit of fire that she didn’t know was possible for Winter.
With a graceful twirl, Miss. Snow quietly whirls away from the crowd and manifests into the physical world.
“Oh!” Lady of the Land exclaims, “It’s so good to see you, Snow!”
“Hey, Snowy,” Winter’s voice shakes the igloo within Miss. Snow’s heart.
“Take good care of her, will ya?” Winter said softly, reaching in for a hug through a windy breeze; the humans tightened their jackets and moved along a little quicker to wherever they were going.
“Always,” Miss. Snow nods with a smile and busily begins to orchestrate a symphony of uniquely designed snowflakes to fall, snowing Lady of the Land in the most luscious bridal gown yet.
Silently, Miss. Snow snows; she may have loved Winter from the beginning of time since childhood days when she and the Lady of the Land played dress-up. She may love Winter still as she watches their unending love story unfold throughout the eons. She may love Winter always, till the end of her existence, but at last, love cannot compare to the bond of true friends.
Miss. Snow dances across the sky as the snowfall begins to gather on Lady of the Land, hugging her curves and figure like a made-to-order dress, or so the humans say. The snowflakes glisten in the light, laying fields of tiny diamonds across the land. Miss. Snow’s igloo heart swells as she watches her two best friends embrace, emitting enough happiness to melt her through and through, igloo or not. She lets out a heartfelt giggle and continues to dance, her heart swelling with joy and love as the snowflakes fall at an evenly pace.
The humans look up in awe at the first snowfall of the year. The wintry breeze is nowhere to be found as the snowflakes cascade from the sky; they unclench their jackets and scarves, surrendering to momentary peace and serenity, noticing that it’s never cold when the snow falls.
End.
